Traditional Ash

American Ash Flooring

The ash tree, found throughout North America, creates beautiful hardwood floors with lasting durability. Traditional American ash is characterized by its beautiful grain pattern and rich color variations. Because of its bold graining, ash hardwood can sometimes be mistaken for hickory, but it is much lighter in color. Ash wood flooring embodies creamy white and light gray-brown tones in the sapwood and deep dark browns in the center of the heartwood. This hardwood flooring is excellent for virtually any interior application.

Not only are ash wood floors attractive, but they also are very durable. Even in high traffic areas of your home, such as the living room, kitchen or foyer, it offers long-term durability. Furthermore, ash flooring is more moisture resistant than other hardwood flooring choices. This moisture resistance is especially valuable in homes with young children or pets.

Ash is a solid wood that has a Janka hardness rating of 1,320. It is used for tool handles, and it’s a common choice in manufacturing wooden baseball bats due to the elasticity of the wood. In comparison to other wood species, ash is harder than red oak, but not as hard as maple, white oak or hickory. Aesthetically, traditional ash flooring is also an advantageous choice because of how the wood absorbs the stain.
